Jason Robinson was just an ordinary kid, into karate and baseball, before one night in 1994
changed everything. At 16, swept up with older companions during a robbery that turned fatal,
he was tried as an adult and sentenced to life, with no chance at parole for 40 years.
In the more than three decades since, Jason has refused to let prison define him. He’s earned
two college degrees and a paralegal certification, trained as an HVAC technician, and become a
steadying, mentoring presence for younger men inside, guys who call him for advice, who look
to him as the one who’s still standing, even when his own optimism has been tested again and
again.

His father, Larry, a retired Army First Sergeant, has spent years fighting just as hard from the
outside, testifying at the Capitol, advocating for second-look legislation, refusing to give up even
when the system gives him every reason to.
