What Is Incomplete Sentences?

Incomplete Sentences is a year-long initiative that challenges us to see beyond the verdict to the full human story. Through authentic, trauma-informed storytelling, we’re creating space for voices that have been systematically silenced, restoring nuance to narratives that have been deliberately muted, and building a movement that recognizes what the research already confirms: transformation is possible, second chances are just, and no young person should be defined solely by who they were in their most vulnerable moment.

Campaign Goals

Incomplete Sentences aims to:

  • Shift public perception by replacing one-dimensional narratives with nuanced storytelling
  • Restore dignity to individuals defined solely by their worst moments
  • Build momentum for systemic reform
  • Challenge misinformation
  • Demonstrate transformation and capacity for growth
  • Inspire action grounded in developmental science and trauma awareness

Campaign Structure

Incomplete Sentences unfolds over the course of one year through a quarterly storytelling model designed to create sustained engagement and cumulative impact.

Year-Long Timeline

The campaign runs for 12 consecutive months, allowing for deep, ongoing dialogue with audiences rather than a single moment of awareness.

Quarterly Story Releases

Every three months, we will release a comprehensive story profile featuring an individual currently incarcerated for an offense committed as a minor.

Each profile includes:

  • First-person narrative and perspective
  • Developmental and environmental context surrounding the offense
  • Documentation of personal growth, education, and advocacy work
  • Expert analysis on neuroscience, trauma, racial disparities, and sentencing policy
  • Resources for audience engagement and action
